Land of gangsters and speakeasies, great lakes and great museums, Wrigley Field, Frank Lloyd Wright, electric blues, and lots and lots of stories. We’re getting a taste of it October 3rd-7th.

Cost

  • $1995.00 per person for a double
  • $2195.00 per person for a single. Please note there are no single beds.

Chicago Trip

Trip Details:

  • SLEEPING in the stunningly fabulous Publishing House, a 1909 publishing house turned bed and breakfast, where all the rooms are named for famous writers with roots in the Windy City.
  • READING
    • Chicago, by Sam Landers and Tom Maday
    • The House On Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros
    • The Leopold and Loeb Files: An Intimate Look at One of America’s Most Infamous Crimes, by (bookseller and chef and author!) Nina Barrett
    • Gather and Graze: 120 Favorite Recipes For Tasty Good Times by Stephanie Izard and Rachel Holtzman
  • EATING Chicago beef sandwiches, top shelf tacos, deep dish pizza, a night out at Girl and the Goat, plus fancy cocktails that may or may not reflect the characters in the books we’re reading.
  • SIGHTSEEING by riverboat and neighborhood stroll, from Cloudgate to The Art Institute, we’ll have plans for the group as well as plenty of suggestions for your free time.

There are only 20 spots available for this trip. A minimum of 14 people is required for this trip. Please do not purchase a plane ticket until we confirm that this minimum is met.

The cost does NOT include transportation to and from Chicago. Each party is responsible for getting him-/herself to The Publishing House.

The cost includes the following:

  • Lodging for 4 nights (checking in on October 3, checking out on October 7)
  • Breakfast for 4 days (October 4-7)
  • Lunch for 3 days (October 4-6)
  • Dinner for 3 days (October 3, 5, 6)
  • Heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails (October 4)

A $500 deposit per person is required to save your spot on the trip.
The balance of the trip cost is due by Thursday, August 22, 2019.
The $500 deposit is fully refundable until Thursday, August 8, 2019.
No refunds will be given after Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Terms and Conditions:

Please note that we cannot guarantee any special requests for hotel rooms.

Once your deposit has been received, you will receive a confirmation email and further information to help you plan your trip.

We reserve the right to cancel any reservations that are not paid in full at any time after the final payment is due. If you make your reservation after the final payment due date, payment in full will be required immediately.

Full final payment is due Thursday, August 22, 2019.

Cancellations and Refunds

For any cancellations made before Thursday, August 8, 2019, you will be issued a refund. If you must cancel your trip, the effective date of cancellation will be upon our receipt of your notification, which must be made in writing by an email sent to Debi Horton at debi@mjudsonbooks.com.

No refunds are possible after Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Travel Documents
You are responsible for securing your own passport, valid for at least six months after the completion of your trip.

Health and Medical Issues
We welcome all travelers, but you must be in good health to participate in our trips. You must be able to climb stairs and board trains and buses on your own, and you should be comfortable with a fair amount of walking in streets that may have uneven surfaces and no curb cuts. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance if you require the use of a wheelchair or have other personal needs; in such cases you must be accompanied by a companion who will assist you.

We cannot provide individual alternatives to the planned group activities. If your fitness level will not allow you to keep up with the group and/or travel on public transportation, you will be responsible for planning your own activities and for any additional costs incurred (for instance, but not limited to, personal taxis, train tickets, and entrance fees).

Arrival and Departure Dates
It is your responsibility to make sure you arrive in Chicago on the specified start date. We cannot refund part of your trip if you arrive late or leave early.

Responsibility
The liability of M.Judson Booksellers and Camilla Compass & Map, individually or jointly (referred to hereafter as Trip Planners), is strictly limited. In no event will the Trip Planners be liable for amounts in excess of the amounts payable to the Trip Planners in accordance with the terms hereunder, nor will Trip Planners be liable for any consequential indirect or incidental damages arising from this agreement. Trip Planners purchase accommodations, transportation and other services from independent suppliers not under our control. We serve only as agents for these suppliers in securing trip arrangements, and therefore will not accept responsibility and liability for wrongful, negligent or arbitrary acts or omissions of these independent contractors, their employees, agents or representatives.

In consideration of, and as part payment for, the right to participate in this trip, the participant, on behalf of her or himself, as well as his or her dependents, heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, agrees to release Trip Planners and their officers, employees, representatives or agents from liability for personal injury, death, property damage, or loss suffered by any person in connection with this seminar.

Trip Planners are not liable for injury, damage, loss, accident, or delay that may be caused by events not within our control, including but not limited to, without limitation, acts of terrorism, war, strikes, defects of any vehicle, adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, theft, or the negligence or default of any third party. The Trip Planners cannot accept responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in airline schedules or other causes; all such losses or expenses will be the responsibility of the participant.

Trip Planners reserve the right to correct errors in advertised prices. We reserve the right to cancel an advertised trip, decline to accept a reservation, or remove a person from a trip if it is determined by us to be in the best interests of the health, safety, or general well-being of other trip participants. We will make every effort to conduct our trip as planned, but we reserve the right to make itinerary and other changes as necessary. If unforeseen circumstances require us to change a hotel, we will make every effort to select alternative accommodations of the same quality.

By registering for this trip, the applicant certifies that he or she is mentally and physically capable of full participation in the trip and agrees to all of the Terms and Conditions herein. The participant further agrees that any segment of the trip that he or she may miss, including meals, sightseeing, classes, local transportation, or other elements is not refundable unless covered and reimbursed by appropriate travel insurance purchased by the participant. The participant understands that paying the deposit indicates agreement with the terms set forth here.
